Overview

Joshua Stone is always seeking a new creative challenge. He has 18 years of marketing, creative and technology leadership experience in everything from: online and traditional marketing, user experience, design, information architecture, business and product strategy, corporate branding, email marketing, advertising, mobile app development, social media based products and applications, content management, technical production, photography and art direction.

Joshua has helped hundreds of companies create engaging customer experiences including: American Airlines, AT&T, Blockbuster, Cinemark, EDS, Folgers, FOX Sports, Fujitsu, Hotels.com, HP, Motorola, Pampers, PepsiCo, Sony, Southwest Airlines and many more. Along with a wealth of creative knowledge, he has a long history of successful experiences that uniquely enable him to bridge the business, design and technology gaps. He has participated in a many user research studies, as well as some of the first eye-tracking research and has mentored numerous marketers, designers, architects and strategists over the years.

Currently Joshua serves as Vice President over Strategy, Marketing and Creative for Rethink Books. Previously he served as Vice President for Big Jump Media - successfully building and selling the two largest Faith-based social networks on the web. Prior to that he operated his own consultancy and helped many small and mid-sized business through a variety of different projects. Before that he led Expedia’s Hotels.com through a complete rebranding, and prior to that he led the Interactive Marketing team for AT&T. Joshua founded and sold the web-design firm Abstract Device and he has previously worked under Creative Directors from Landor and Nike.

Joshua is very self motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit. He diligently researches everything and loves to analyze results to formulate new attack plans. He is very digitally savvy and enjoys making the complicated simple.

Vice President: Creative, Marketing & Strategy
Rethink Books
May 2010 - Current
-RethinkBooks is the startup SaaS company behind SocialBooks, AuthorPages and AuthorStats - creating the first socially based tools and Apps for Authors, Publishers and Self Publishers.

-Working closely with the CEO, as Vice President of Strategy, we define the primary product, SocialBooks - a device agnostic socially based reading platform for both web and mobile devices. Using our software to power white-labeled mobile apps we created a one stop solution for eBook App creation, which has been featured on TechCrunch and New York Times.

-Define and execute marketing, creative and product strategies to build a world class organization by working with publishers such as: Ingram Publishing, Zondervan Publishing, Harper Collins Publishing, Mardel Christian Bookstores, AuthorSolutions.com, as well as many notable Authors such as Kevin Kelly, Timothy Ferris, Seth Godin, Max Lucado, etc.

-Directing teams of developers in San Francisco and Costa Rica, the secondary product, AuthorPages, is a Facebook application with a rich client backend that allows customers to create custom Marketing pages that feature linkable banners, libraries of purchasable ebooks, ratings, reviews, calendar of events with blog and twitter feeds.

-Direct the creation of a third software offering, AuthorStats - an analytics, tracking and socially-based statistics tool for Authors and Publishers which allow them to monitor and respond to their intellectual property and marketing campaigns on social networks and provide insights to increase ROI.

-Create the marketing strategies for categorically based book Apps including: Zondervan's Bible Gateway App, Social Classics App, Disrupt App, Ignite App and First Chapters App.

-Lead the marketing and creative strategy for iPhone and iPad e-Commerce e-Book store, along with all associated marketing media.

-Direct the design for a customer friendly administration site for business owners to manage multiple bookstores, book inventory and user management.

-Created the initial business processes, currently working in iterative Agile S.C.R.U.M. sprint releases. Direct the Marketing, Email, IA, UX, Creative and outsource Development teams.


Vice President: Creative, Marketing & Strategy
Big Jump Media
Sept 2008 - June 2010
-Big Jump Media was the startup company behind Tangle.com and GodTube.com - the largest faith-based social networks and video-file sharing networks in the world with over 5,000,000 users. As Vice President, I worked with the CEO to define and execute our business strategy and help build a world class organization.

-During my tenure, I created the Social CRM and Email Segmentation Marketing Strategies that enabled the successful sale of both entities to Salem Web Network, along with completing due diligence, valuation and other associated acquisition documentation.

-Developed the full business strategy for Tangle.com and all associated marketing plans. Worked with the sales team to implement advertising campaigns including Walt Disney's Earth, Walt Disney's G-Force, National Day of Prayer, Huggies, Billy the early Years Movie, Dove Awards, WinterJam, Wow 2009 & 2010 CDs, and TBN Television Network.

-Created the strategy for a digital database of over 330,000 churches with a white-labeling solution and premium service model.

-Incorporated an e-Commerce solution and revenue share to advertise and move related industry merchandise across all channels.

-Created the business working process and directed the Marketing, Email, Information Architecture, UX, Design, Copywriting and Content teams.

-Responsible for editorial and viral content of all web entities.

-Planned, tracked and optimized online and offline media, including: SEM, SEO, Display, Email (SilverPop) & Affiliate marketing, DoubleClick, Google AdWords, Google Analytics, Social Media & Blogs, Radio, Print and Online-Video advertising, Business Development and Channel Marketing.

-Hotels.com is owned by Expedia Inc, which additionally owns Hotwire.com, Expedia.com, TripAdvisor.com and many other smaller travel websites.

-Recruited to lead a complete rebranding effort: including logo and identity rebrand, complete website redesign including all transactional pieces as well as affiliate websites.

-During my tenure, daily transaction and booking revenue increased over 300%.

-Responsible for all external marketing communications: Email, Print, TV and Display Ads.

-Directed multiple teams: User Experience Design, Copywriting and Front-End HTML Technology.

-Led extensive Usability Research & Testing and Eye-Tracking Studies.

-Rebranded Hotel affiliate network white-label product: Ian.com.

-Directed a number of sub-brands: SouthBeach.com, Orlando.com, VacationSpot.com.

-Created new Email Marketing template system.

-Led cross promotional marketing efforts with Expedia.com, Hotwire.com and TripAdvisor.com.

-Omnicom is one of the largest holding companies whose agencies provide marketing and communications services in the disciplines of advertising, CRM, strategic media planning and buying, digital and interactive marketing, direct and promotional marketing and other specialty communications. Rapp and Javelin are two of the top CRM agencies in the world. During my tenure while working on the AT&T/SBC account, the company Rapp split into two separate entities forming Javelin, after the addition of Cingular and DishNetwork to the AT&T portfolio.

-Directed Interactive Advertising for AT&T, as well as directed joint Print & Web Ad campaigns with a normal drop rate between ~20MM to ~50MM pieces.

-Created campaigns to announce AT&Ts acquisition of DishNetwork and Cingular Mobile, as well as leading the 2004 Olympic's Advertising Campaign, as AT&T was a primary sponsor.

-Created the AT&T Blueroom: a CRM campaign focused on incorporating Pop Music Celebrities with Webcasts and Blogs targeted towards the 20s and teen markets, and incorporated multiple give-away campaigns.

-Formulated AT&T Email marketing strategy and directed hundreds of Email campaigns.

-Worked with Senior Management to formulate overall company process for Javelin.

-Directed Interactive Marketing Design, Copywriting and external Photographers and Talent.

-Worked on client sales presentations, including USAA.

-Lead multiple joint advertisement campaigns for Walt Disney, San Antonio Spurs and San Francisco Giants.

-Vectrix was a doc-com startup. I was hired when the company had around 40 employees and it quickly grew to almost 700. We acquired several companies and were an eBusiness solutions provider to a number of large clients.

-Worked on the identity and first version of Cinemark’s Fandango.com.

-Additional Clients: Flooze, iChoose, Motorola, NStorm, Texas Back Institute, Zippity.
